5 Distractions To Help Prevent An Anxiety Attack
Stop It Before It Gets Out Of Control
By Grace K. Bianco
My book, Party Pooper: Growing up with Anxiety, goes into much more detail on how I used some of these exact coping mechanisms in real life situations.
Anxiety truly sucks. There’s no great way to put it.
It’s your own mind plotting against you. You know it’s all in your head, but you cannot get it to calm down. It can feel like a thousand voices screaming, “What if __?” “Danger! Danger!” “REMEMBER THIS AND THAT TRAUMATIC EVENT!” etc. The more you try to silence it… The louder it can become.
I am not a licensed therapist. I have taken a couple of Psychology classes, but they were hardly anything. I have read many people’s stories on either overcoming or living with anxiety. I am not 100% clueless when it comes to other people.
My true knowledge comes from my own experience, eighteen years worth of experience. I developed anxiety at just four years old, and frankly, I don’t know what it feels like to not have it.
I have had my fair share of panic and anxiety attacks.** Today, I will be sharing 5 distractions that have helped ME prevent many attacks.
