Thanksgiving 2019

I was eight years old when my parents announced that we would be adopting. We were going to grow our family of five.

I was ecstatic. I was the youngest in my family, and I was just sure we would adopt a baby. I had spent majority of my life begging for a little sister. Surely, this would be my opportunity to live my dream.

As I bounced around excitedly over the news, I had no idea how different our reality would be.

LaLa Land

I can still hear my parents exclaiming the announcement to my older sister, older brother, and me like it was yesterday. That was around thirteen years ago.

Almost immediately after hearing the news, I wanted all the answers, and most importantly, I wanted to know if my parents were planning on adopting a baby.

My parents quickly stated that no promises were going to be made right away, but soon after their announcement, my family began the process of adopting a baby girl from
