First off, it is disturbing. That is why Christians are so adamant to tell lost people about Jesus.
I will start off by saying there is no such thing as a “good” person. Have you ever made a mistake in your life? I am sure you could answer that question with many. I know I have. Romans 3:23 says, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
I hardly ever lie. I haven’t killed or stolen from anyone. I have never even thought to cheat on my husband. The list goes on. Even though there are things I DON’T do, there are many things that I DO do.
So, how are we saved? Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” You cannot be “good enough” to get into heaven, because as I stated, we all fall short.
Our sins are wiped clean by the blood of Jesus. (“Our sins are washed away and we are made clean because Christ gave His own body as a gift to God. He did this once for all time.” —Hebrews 10:10)
Lastly, I will end with God doesn’t “send people to hell.” In James 1:13-14, it says, “When tempted, no one should say, ‘God is tempting me.’ For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.” It is our choice whether to believe or not believe. And when we choose to believe, 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here.” We leave our old lives behind to follow the ways of Christ, but even still, we will mess up sometimes. The difference is we are already forgiven.
I didn’t answer the question in the blog, because as you can see, it is lengthy. But I am glad you asked! Let me know if I need to clarify anything. (:
