I believe my faith makes me shadowbanned.

Won’t Stop Me Though

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel,

for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16

On more platforms than you could guess, Christians have spoken out about how they feel their posts about God don’t hit the algorithm as well as their other posts do.

Is it because of the hashtags (God, Jesus, faith, religion, Christianity, etc.) under each posts? Do they pick out words from captions and blogs that they decide aren’t fit for the world to see? Or is it just always a coincidence?

Look, I can’t exactly say why or say for certain that this is 100% happening, but I do believe there is a chance it is.

Christianity is becoming more controversial.

Christian or not, this is not a hard thing to pick up on in today’s world. Christians have certain beliefs that just don’t feel right to other people. We aren’t all wired the same, and this causes controversy.

A lot of times I feel as though some may think I am not as credible due to being a Christian. The stereotypes that surround Christianity are what many think of when they come across a Christian. In many people’s eyes, Christians are hateful and judgmental. To be fair, many are, but that doesn’t speak for everyone.

My mission is to show my views and lifestyle, as a Christian, in the most loving and peaceful way possible.

Some people love debating. They learn others beliefs through arguing them. I, on the other hand, despise debates. I don’t like arguing. I learn about others’ beliefs through social media, books, and just asking them about theirs.

I believe to better understand my own faith… I have to know what my beliefs are “going up against”. I also believe that it helps me talk about topics in a less controversial way if I understand other people’s point of view. I always want to approach the hard and the easy topics in the best way I can to cause as little conflict as possible. Unfortunately, it still happens at times. As I said above, we just aren’t all wired the same. What I may try to say gently, someone else could see as harsh.

Am I shadowbanned?

I can’t say 100%. I have written on so many different topics, but majority of them, I mention my faith. None of my blogs bring in the kind of traffic I hope for. I can’t help but wonder if I chose a completely different path of writing… Would my blogs/posts do better?

It’s not just Medium that I am talking about. I have another more personal blog, newkindofliving.com, that also doesn’t bring in many people. I have been on social media for years (especially Instagram). I have a pretty small audience, but it never really grows despite trying various approaches.

Some may think, “She just sucks at writing” or “Her topics just aren’t good enough”, but if people were thinking that, that would mean people were reading my blogs. I’d take it.

My plan moving forward.

I get discouraged easily. This blog account is full of “writer’s rants”. I go through spurts where I post a lot, and then, I go through other spurts where I hardly post at all.

I am determined to publish more on Medium. My goal is three posts a week. Next week, I am going to the beach, and I plan on writing six blogs this week to still be able to post while on vacation. I believe that posting more helps get into the algorithm more.

I won’t stop writing about my faith. When I ask myself, “Would it make my blogs do better to stop?”, it’s because I am curious. I believe my call to writing was from God. It is my doorway to speak boldly about Him. Social media is growing daily, and it should be used as a tool to hear others voices.

Whether I am shadowbanned or not, I will continue to write about God. If I want Him to remember me when I am face-to-face with Him, I have to remember Him first. I will give writing my all, but if it never goes anywhere, I believe it’s because God didn’t put that in His plan for me. If it does become my career, all the success will be God’s.
