I call most people that I know a friend. I differentiate each of them by saying a friend, a close friend, and a best friend. In the Christian faith, we call all believers sisters and brothers in Christ. Calling someone a friend seems a lot less serious than that haha.

I understand your point though. I am pretty extroverted. So, I like seeing everyone as a friend to me. (:
