I am twenty-one years old, and I just got my first tattoo. It’s not because I couldn’t make up my mind. In fact, I have been planning on this tattoo since late middle school/early high school. Yet, there were many reasons it was postponed this long.
For starters, I lived with my parents until I got married at twenty. They HATE tattoos more than anyone on this planet. My siblings and I were told very early on that tattoos were not allowed while living under their roof, but once we moved out, we could do and get whatever we wanted.
But even after I moved out, I couldn’t get one right away. I was on Accutane, a strong medication for cystic acne, and you canNOT get a tattoo while on it.
Once I was off Accutane, it was summer, which is a terrible time to get one (sun exposure and can’t soak it in water). On the other hand, one of my sisters and I had a pact. We would get our first tattoo together, and it would match. She still hadn’t moved out.
She moved out in the fall, and we couldn’t get our schedules to match up. So, here it is…
