I Love My Cat, But I Hate Cats.
Cat People, Let Me Elaborate.
By Grace K. Bianco
I always said I would never get a cat, and I feel like God laughed and put Ghost on that busy road for a reason.
I have never been a cat person. If someone asked me, “Dogs or cats?” I would answer without the tiniest bit of hesitation, “DOGS!!” Those memes that say something like, “Cat people be like: ‘I like cats, but dogs are cute too.’ Dog people be like: ‘I love dogs, and I despise cats. They are mean, unaffectionate, and not nearly as cute.’” Yeah, that was me.
My husband would joke and joke about getting a cat. He loves them. He can’t even choose between cats and dogs. In fact, those are his two favorite animals. BORING!! (If your favorite animal is a cat or dog, I am 100% joking. I just pull my husband’s leg any chance I get.) I would answer to his “pleas” with, “Absolutely not. I will NEVER EVER EVER get a cat.”
Then one day, the tiniest little black cat (that I mistook for a rat) ran across a busy street a couple cars ahead of me. It was raining. The intense empathy in me turned the car around and pulled over. I jumped out of my car, and I booked it in my three inch heels. I couldn’t have looked crazier.
I immediately drove to my mother-in-law’s house with a sleepy kitten tucked in my shirt. As soon as I saw her, I told her, “I don’t think I want to keep it.”
