Tales of a New Marriage
January 27, 2021
Grace Bianco here. I have been married for nineteen days.
We started off the morning with me putting my alarm on snooze at least three times. I finally rolled myself out of bed around 8:30. That’s right. 8:30. I made it sound like I was getting up before 7.
My husband slept a little longer as I got ready.
Once, he woke up. I showed him my scrunchie and asked, “Would you call this lavender or periwinkle?” We had a huge discussion after this, because apparently, not everyone knows the color periwinkle. It ended with me being set on my scrunchie being periwinkle, and my husband exclaiming, “I will never refer to anything as periwinkle. Sounds like some kind of insult from ‘Jack and the bean Stalk’.” Every time I think about him tiredly annoyed with the color periwinkle, I laugh out loud.
Anyways, I was getting ready, because I was going with my mom to Hobby Lobby and to go get coffee. I was very excited while I was getting ready. It would be my first time out with my mom since I got married.
My mom and I are extremely close. I am one of seven. Four of my siblings were adopted from Ukraine. Through many of the trials we faced with my anxiety as a child through adulthood and adoption, it made my mom and I grow very close. In fact, my book is dedicated to her. (“This book is dedicated to my mom, the hero in all of my stories.”)
I felt like I had so much tell her. Like as soon as I saw her, I would just word vomit nonstop.
My husband made sure to emphasize that I could go have fun and not rush home. And I listened to him. I stayed with my mom from about 10 to the time she had to pick my younger sister up from school at 2.
When I left my mom’s, I went grocery shopping. I also got us a swiffer, a dryer rack for the sink, and a spice rack for the pantry. You never realize how much a house needs until you get your own.
I finally made dinner. I made chicken burrito bowls with : brown rice, lettuce, sauteed onions, salsa, and guacamole. My husband thanked me more than once for dinner. I consider that a huge win for the day.
We ended the night with my husband playing chest and me reading my book to myself. Before we fell asleep, I did the nightly reading from “Dear Romantic”.
It was a productive and good day for me.
That was my day… How was yours??
