Raise Your Hand If You Have A Plan B

My hands are glued to my side.

Unless you haven’t read a single post or title in the last twenty days, you already know Medium is going through it. My email has never been so bare. So, I am not here to complain or make any updates on whatever the heck is going on.

However, I am here to discuss my nonexistent plan B if Medium were to crash and burn.

I have been on Medium since July 2021. I have seen my fair share of ups and downs on here. Throughout my years on here, I have read many posts discussing the need for a backup plan. I’d tell myself, “That’s a good idea. What is my backup?” That’s about the extent of my brainstorming.

I am someone that gets comfortable. I don’t like change, and a lot of times, I don’t always like learning new things. Medium gave me a community and earnings that wix.com and blogspot.com never gave me. As a published author, I can honestly say that blogging is definitely my favorite. THIS is where I belong.

But in all my years, I have never seen such a fall like this one. When TikTok was banned for a few hours and influencers were worried about their next steps, it made me reflect even more on what I’d do if Medium died. What then?

NOT!

I am not quitting or planning on leaving anytime soon. As I mentioned, I have seen plenty of ups and downs on here. There is still hope.

However, it’s no secret that before all of this, people weren’t happy with Medium. Earning decreases, spam, and glitches aren’t necessarily new. People were fed up long before this, and many have already left.

I’ll do my best to stay here until the day Medium crashes and burns to the ground, but I can’t be in lala land until then. Shouldn’t I have some kind of plan if that were to happen?

Well, I don’t.

I signed up for Substack, and I was immediately humbled. Medium’s membership was a one-time fee to read thousands of writers. Who will really just pay to be subscribed to JUST me?

I could go back to wix or blogspot, but the community and engagement will take a lot more work than Medium. There’s a good chance it will never come close. (Trust me, I tried before I ended up here.)

I could stop blogging completely and write more books, but will I ever learn to like that more than blogging?

If Medium goes down, I will just go down with it lol. Maybe, I’d start putting more effort into social media again.? Time will tell, but for now, I’ll plant my feet in the ground and be here.

What about you? Do you have a plan B?
