Hear me out.

This is the story that needs to be told.

Now that I have your attention, don’t get me wrong here… I love Santa. My mom made Christmas time so magical for me growing up. She worked extra hard to make sure that I believed in Santa. I believed in him until I was nine years old. When I found out he wasn’t real, I was devastated.

A lot of people are starting to say it is wrong to lie to your children, and while they aren’t entirely wrong, I don’t believe Santa is truly considered a lie. Although I was devastated to find out he wasn’t real, Christmas time is still so magical and nostalgic to me. I am glad I had those years to truly believe, and I hope I can make Christmas just as special for my own future children.

However, the point of this blog isn’t to defend whether or not children should believe in Santa. Parents can decide whatever they want. The point of this blog is to really remind everyone what Christmas is ACTUALLY about.

A Slightly Summarized Version Of The Real Christmas Story

A little over two thousand years ago, the world was given an amazing gift, the Messiah (a savior). His entrance to the world was a humble one, BUT it was still a miraculous one.

A regular girl, no better than you or me, was going to give birth to the Son of God as a virgin.

“But the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.’ ‘How will this be,’ Mary asked the angel, ‘since I am still a virgin?’ The angel answered, ‘The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will be called the Son of God…’” — Luke 1:30–35

While Mary was due anytime, she and Joesph, the man she was arranged to marry, had to travel to Bethlehem.

“In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.” — Luke 2:1

“So Joesph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.” — Luke 2:4

There would be no room besides a little manger for him, but heaven would sing down to nearby shepherds to welcome the Son of God.

“While they [Mary and Joesph] were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her first son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.” — Luke 2:6–7

“But the angel said to them [the shepherds], ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in a manger.’ Suddenly a great company of heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to to those on whom his favor rests.’” — Luke 2:10–14

What would it have been like to be Mary, so young and pregnant? What would it have been like to be Joesph, a virgin with a pregnant wife? What would it have been like to be the shepherds, working in the fields with angels singing right in front of them?

What To Take From This

This is the story that needs to be told. It’s better than magic… It’s miraculous. A king was sent on this day to save the world. Of course, this is a day to be celebrated.

Like I said above, my parents, especially my Pinterest mom, made Christmas magical. They also taught us the real reason for celebration. I grew up knowing why this holiday is such a big deal.

Santa isn’t overrated, but he does seem to get more attention than Jesus. I think that’s where we go wrong. Christmas can still be magical, but the reason for celebration should always be obvious.

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” — Isaiah 9:6

MERRY CHRISTMAS!! ❤
