The Time I Spent Christmas In Ukraine

Santa still made his way across the world for me.

I appreciate my parents so much for always going the extra mile (or MANY miles in this case) to make things special.

I haven’t been out of the country much in my life. In fact, I have only ever been out of the country twice, Ukraine and Mexico.

My entire family (including my grandmother) flew over to Ukraine for the adoption of two of my sisters in 2009. I was only nine years old, and my soon-to-be sisters were nine and ten.

My two older and biological siblings and my dad stayed for two weeks. They had to return to school and work. My mom, my grandmother, my two adopted sisters, and I had to stay for an entire month. I was homeschooled at the time.

During the first two weeks with the whole family, we celebrated Christmas in Ukraine.

My two sisters are from Sloviansk, Ukraine.

Their town was small and poor. The buildings were old. A lot of them even had broken windows. There wasn’t much to do around us.
