This is such a sweet idea.

I am the only one in my family (besides my estranged sister) who moved out of state. I love my family, and I understand that my parents won't live forever. I visit as often as possible, but when I am not back home, I text my dad theological questions and some of writing for him to edit. I text my mom memes and random updates. My two sisters get random texts about anything that comes to my head. I don't hear much from my brothers, and my youngest sister doesn't have a phone. To sum it up, I just text them informal things to keep in the loop.
