Wow, that's crazy that it happened on the same day! I am so glad that he didn't end up losing a bunch of money. That could have been really bad.

My mom fell for a PayPal scam a few years ago. She didn't lose anything either, but my dad and mom had to go through the same awful process as Jon did. That experience made me a lot more vigilant about emails/texts.
