A Rant Post

A couple of days ago, my husband informed me that he was being forced back onto swing shift again for at least three months.

If you don’t know what swing shift is, it means that you switch back and forth between night shift and day shift. One week, you’re on nights. The next, you are on days. All shifts are twelve hours this way too.

If you have been here a while, you probably already know that I DESPISE when my husband is working nights. I get extreme paranoia, and it’s really hard for me to sleep at night by myself. It’s also makes me really anxious when my husband is trying to sleep during the day. I am scared to breathe too loudly, because he is such a light sleeper. (Read about my paranoia: here. Read an old rant post on night shift: here.)

I am a big lover of routine. It keeps my chaotic brain in line. Swing shift throws that out the window. Just when we get used to day shift, my husband has to switch to nights and vice versa. Also, the schedule isn’t a Monday-Friday type schedule. It’s completely random, and there will be many weekends that he will have to work. (Read my old rant post about not having a routine due to swing: here.)

This past year of my husband being on dayshift, I never once took it for granted. In fact, I JUST wrote an article about my “boring” and predictable
